Hotel Overview

Located approximately 73 kilometers west of Havana in the Sierra del Rosario Biosphere Reserve, Hotel Moka is one of Cuba’s most unique hotels. It was purposefully designed to meld seamlessly with the forested hills of Las Terrazas, and the effect is unparalleled ecological comfort and style. In short, the Moka is romantic, intimate, and fully deserving of your time.

The Hotel Moka’s design is a modern twist on Spanish colonial architecture and features a splendid multi-tiered atrium lobby built around a large lime tree (the branches disappear magically through the skylight). The two-story units have magnificent red-barked trees growing through the balconies and ceiling. The bathrooms are spectacular, with deep tubs abutting a glass wall shielded from the outside by plants.

Complejo Turístico Las Terrazas is located in an area of some 5,000 hectares, developed as a sustainable project based on the rational use of natural resources. It combines a small community of about 1200 people, many of them artists, with eco-tourism. Like Hotel Moka, all other buildings in Las Terrazas are designed to blend with their surroundings.

Recently, a special accommodation concept was introduced. Guestrooms were built to houses of local residents to accommodate international guests. You walk through the kitchen to your own (separate) room, enriched with works by local artists. The Guesthouses are administrated by Hotel Moka and do not offer (yet) gastronomic services, but a stay here stands for integration with the Cuban family life.

Activities here include exploring the nearby ruins of 19th century coffee plantations, relaxing by the lake, and visiting locally-owned restaurants and artist’s studios. Active travelers can enjoy trekking, hiking, bird-watching, canopy (zip line tours) and horseback riding. Do it especially with a guide, even if you´re not a fan of organized tours, but this way you get to places you probably won’t find (or enter) yourself.

Canopy Tour (09.30am)
The Canopy Tour (zip-line) in Las Terrazas is a unique adventure to do in Cuba. The Canopy Tour is a nearly 2km aerial tour using steel cables to whiz above Las Terrazas’ fascinating scenery. Here, you will find highly trained personnel and professional equipment. Anybody between 2 and 80 years old can join in on the fun! (EXCEPTIONS – You are not permitted to take part in this activity if you have had recent surgery, consumed alcohol, or are hypertensive).
– Canopy Tour – 45 minutes consisting of 3 zip lines
– Canopy Tour – 1 hour and 15 minutes consisting of 6 zip lines

Bird-watching (08.00am)
Learn more about local bird life during this 3 hour trail (2500mtrs). Las Terrazas’ rich nature gives shelter to approximately 199 species of birds (migratory, as well Cuban endemic). A picnic lunch is included. (Bring your own bird-watching supplies).
